History

 

The first line of the Poultry Farm was started in December 1972. In honour of the 50th anniversary of the USSR formation, the Poultry Farm was given the name “The Poultry Farm after the 50th anniversary of the USSR”. The number of birds was 260,000 layers, the egg production was 58.9 mln, and the poultry meat production was 592 tons a year.

 

Due to the continuous renovation of the production houses and changing of the equipment for bird management the number of layers in 2007 became 1. 830 mln, and the total number of egg-type birds was 2.610 mln. The number of eggs in 2007 was 602 mln eggs a year.

 

In 1985 the site of egg drying was built and the production of dry whole eggs began. Its capacity at that moment was 120 tons a year.

 

After privatization in 1992 (the share-holders were all the workers) the Poultry Farm situated in Karelian peninsula got its current name ROSKAR: ROS stands for Russian, KAR stands for Karelia. So, ROSKAR means Russian Karelia.

 

To improve the quality of feed and to decrease the production costs in 1994 the own feed mill was built at the poultry farm. In 2007 100 thousand tons of mashed feed were produced.

 

In 1997 the decision to produce broiler birds was made, that’s why the bankrupt poultry farm Korobitsyno (that poultry farm was specialized in producing breeding broiler eggs) and a bankrupt meat-processing company situated near Roskar were bought.

 

In 2005 with the help of the national development project «Development of Agrarian and Industrial Complex» the equipment for broiler breeder flocks was changed and a new slaughter line, with a capacity of 6,000 broilers or 4,000 layers per hour was installed. In 2007 7652.7 tons of broiler meat were produced.

 

In 1999 the first egg-processing plant in Russia was built and put into operation at Roskar. Its current capacity is about 1.2 million of eggs a day. Different products are produced there: liquid and frozen egg products and dry egg products, such as whole egg, yolk and egg white.

 

In 2003 the quality control system HAССP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) is introduced at the poultry farm. Roskar was the first Russian poultry farm which received this certificate.

 

In 2006 the manure processing plant was started, it has a capacity to make 2 tons of the granulated organic fertilizer per hour. This solved the manure problem which most poultry farms face with. The trade mark the fertilizer is «The Crop without troubles».

 

From 1998 the production of enriched eggs began. These eggs have increased health properties. At first the eggs under the trade mark “EXTRA” were produced: eggs with a bright orange yolk colour obtained by including extra carotenoids to the feed. In 2002 the assortment was increased by “OMEGA-3 Aktive” eggs containing Omega-3 acids. From 2002 ROSKAR began to produce “The Happy Layer” eggs, laid by layers housed in a system without cages, unique for Russia. In 2006 two more new egg types appeared: “Aktivita” containing increased quantities of iodine and selenium and the super large eggs “Mega”. And finally in 2007 the poultry farm began to sell eggs under trade mark «Polziki» with an unusual cream shell colour and the increased contents of iodine.

 

A lot of attention goes to meat processing. In 2002 the equipment for making ready-to-eat products (cutlets, chicken nuggets, etc.) was bought . In 2006-2007 cutlets and zrazas (meat pies stuffed with rice, buckwheat, mashed potatoes, etc) with different fillings were introduced to the market. The number of cooled products (broiler carcasses, cuts from broiler meat, ready-to-cook products) grows bigger and bigger.
